This news has been flagged being potential fake news, as all sources traces back to a single The Guardian article. In the article, this new policy was only mentioned by a Youtube Spokeswoman and Youtube haven’t put out any official statement on policy changes.

How did we do our research?

We went through many related articles and checked their references. We also went throuh Youtube’s policy to check for related information.

Findings:

Super Chat is a new Youtube live stream feature, where viewers could donate to the streamer and their donation would get pinned in the comments. The donator could also write a short message, which will show up with the donation. The duration of the pin depends on the donated amount. However, according to the same article, this causes problems where the donator abuses the system to spread hate messages. Even though, most of these messages are sarcastic. Twitch faces similar problems, but Youtube apparently decided to donate the inappropriate Super Chat donations to charities.  Some suggested that Youtube should use Stream Labs, a more streaming system, to avoid this problem.

Editor’s Comment:

This sounds like Youtube. I do believe it is true, but maybe we will hear from Youtube later. They are not exactly great at communicating with their community.

Findings:

Recently, a photo of Justin Bieber sitting on a park bench and eating a burrito sideways surfaced. The photo of Justin Bieber eating a burrito sideways spread all over the internet and people were upset how he ate the burrito. Many news media picked up the story; however it turns out to be a fake photo. YesTheory staged the photo with a Justin Bieber look alike. They thought of how Bieber would dress, act and what kind of content would go viral. They got interviewed and the photo spread beyond their anticipation. Their main goal was to fake a Justin Bieber photo and make it viral, without any particular agenda other than testing if it would work. YesTheory even made a video about how they did it.

Editor’s Comment:

This is why we need a site like Sofakenews. I mean just Google to see how fast the photo spread without anybody fact checking it.
